Development Director

Position Overview

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and leads fundraising and resource development to support C.T.T. C.O.T.T.O.N.’s programs and operations. This person ensures sustainable funding through grants, donor cultivation, partnerships, and community-driven fundraising initiatives, aligned with the organization’s mission and values.

The Development Director will be a strategic partner in building long-term financial stability while centering Black and Black LGBTQ+ communities, affirming third spaces, and organizational accountability.

Key Responsibilities | Development Director

Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals and community priorities.

  • Lead major gift, grant, and corporate fundraising efforts, including research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and reporting.

  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including foundations, government grants, individual donors, and corporate partnerships.

  • Collaborate with program staff to translate program goals and outcomes into fundable initiatives.

  • Develop and track annual fundraising goals, metrics, and KPIs to measure performance.

Donor & Community Relations

  • Build and sustain relationships with existing and potential donors, funders, and community partners.

  • Oversee donor stewardship programs, including acknowledgments, impact reporting, and recognition events.

  • Serve as a public ambassador for C.T.T. C.O.T.T.O.N., representing the organization at community and fundraising events.

  • Support grassroots and community-based fundraising efforts, ensuring engagement of Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

Systems & Infrastructure

  • Maintain and optimize donor databases, CRM systems, and fundraising tracking tools.

  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Finance team on budgeting, revenue projections, and financial planning.

  • Establish workflows and processes for grant tracking, reporting, and compliance.

  • Ensure fundraising practices meet ethical, legal, and reporting standards.

Storytelling, Marketing & Messaging

  • Translate program outcomes, impact stories, and organizational achievements into compelling narratives for funders, media, and stakeholders.

  • Work closely with Communications/Marketing staff to align messaging, campaigns, and materials with fundraising goals.

  • Create content for newsletters, donor updates, and fundraising campaigns that highlight community impact and accountability.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with the Executive Director and leadership team on strategic organizational planning.

  • Mentor and support staff or interns involved in fundraising or donor relations.

  • Bring a values-driven, equity-centered approach to fundraising strategy, centering Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $89,000 annually
